Baqarah 35-37
35- AND WE SAID: O ADAM, ABIDE YOU AND YOUR WIFE IN THE GARDEN AND EAT FROM IT AS MUCH AS YOU WISH, WHATEVER YOU WISH, BUT NEVER APPROACH THIS TREE, FOR YOU WILL BE OF THE TRANSGRESSORS.
36- BUT THE DEVIL MADE THEM EAT FROM IT, AND CAUSED THEM TO BE EXPELLED FROM THE STATE THEY WERE IN. WE SAID: GO DOWN, YOU WILL BE ENEMIES TO EACH OTHER YOU WILL HAVE IN THE EARTH A PLACE TO SETTLE AND FOR LIVELIHOOD FOR A WHILE.
37- ADAM RECEIVED WORDS FROM HIS LORD, THEN HIS LORD FORGAVE HIM, FOR HE IS THE MOST FORGIVING, THE COMPASSIONATE.
First Satan was tested, and then Adam was tested. Allah the Highest gave Adam and Eve the Garden to live in, allowing them every where, and every thing, except one tree, only one.
These were not the only promises, Allah the Highest made to Adam and Eve, Allah the Highest added “YOU WILL NEITHER BE HUNGREY IN IT (THE GARDEN) NOR NAKED * AND NEITHER YOU WILL BE THIRSTY IN IT NOR SUFFER THE HEAT OF THE SUN”. (S:20 A:118-119)
Allah the Highest also warned Adam and Eve that Satan is their enemy and that Satan will strive to get them out of the Garden. If he does, they will suffer, “O ADAM, SATAN IS AN ENEMY FOR YOU AND YOUR WIFE, DO NOT LET HIM DRIVE YOU OUT OF THE GARDEN, THEN YOU WILL SUFFER”. (S:20 A:117)
Warned beforehand, they were put to the test.
Satan, lead Adam and Eve out of the Garden. Whispering unto them a number of ideas to lead them to eat of the forbidden tree, saying: “YOUR LORD FORBAD YOU THIS TREE SO THAT YOU WILL NOT BE TWO ANGELS OR BECOME IMMORTAL”. (S:7 A:20)
Also: “SATAN WHISPERED TO THEM: O ADAM, SHALL I LEAD YOU TO THE TREE OF IMMORTALITY AND AN EVERLASTING KINGDOM”. (S:20 A:120)
Adam forgot the Allah’s commands, promises and warning. He ate from the forbidden tree. “AND WE HAVE TAKEN THE COVENANT OF ADAM BEFOREHAND, BUT HE FORGOT AND WE DID NOT FIND HIM OF FIRM RESOLVE”. (S:20 A:115)
It is clear from this Ayah that Allah the Highest blamed Adam not Eve for this transgression, contrary to what is believed by other faiths. This shows that:
- The Husband is the head of the family and is responsible for the major decisions.
- The man is the person to be blamed for wrong doings by the family as a family.
Allah the Highest inspired Adam and Eve to ask for forgiveness, and Allah the Highest forgave them, as he said: “THEY (ADAM AND EVE) SAID: OUR LORD, WE HAVE WRONGED OUR OWN SOULS, IF YOU DO NOT FORGIVE US AND HAVE MERCY UPON US, WE WILL BE OF THE LOSERS”. (S:7 A:23)
Contrary to Satan, Allah the Highest forgave them as they repented and asked for forgiveness. Allah the Highest loves to forgive. Allah’s messenger, prayer and peace upon him said: “All the children of Adam are sinful, however the best of the sinful are those who repent”. (T:Qiamah;49 & Ma:Zohd;30 & Da:Reqaq;18 & A:3;189)
Allah the Highest, forgives all sins as he said: “SAY: O MY SLAVES WHO TRANSGRESSED AGAINST THEIR OWN SOULS, DO NOT DESPAIR OF ALLAH’S MERCY, FOR ALLAH FORGIVES ALL SINS, FOR ALLAH IS THE MOST FORGIVING THE MOST COMPASSIONATE”. (S:39 A:53)
There is one sin that is an exception, Allah does not forgive, that is to disbelieve or to worship partners besides Him, as He said: “ALLAH DOES NOT FORGIVE FOR PARTNERS TO BE WORSHIPED BESIDES HIM, BUT FORGIVES WHATEVER ELSE TO WHOM HE WILLS”. (S:4 A:48,116)
